Longing for Autumn.....

Oh my gosh, it's far too hot for us right now.  I can't believe that we're having a fourth ! heat wave.  Poor sleep and lack of exercise, because it's far too hot to go out, is taking it's toll.  We feel sluggish, have no appetite and I'm now at the stage where I long for Autumn 😟 There is no sign of the heat wave breaking yet and it will be hot here right through the coming weekend. Help!

And now we are officially in a drought situation in the UK.  I'm trying to conserve water and using grey water for the garden and yet I am still hearing people watering their gardens with a hosepipe.  We have a dip tank at the allotment so our veg are still getting a drink, thanks to Graham venturing out, brave soul, but our grass is just straw.  Gray is at the allotment now doing some repairs to the shed.  It was third hand when it was given to us and is now starting to fall apart.  There is no way that we can afford a new one so it will be repaired until it literally falls down.  I'm trying to tackle the ironing.  I have the fan at my feet and an iced drink to hand but I've had to take a break and write this post before I melt clean away !

Here's a cooling photo for all those feeling the heat....sigh.....

------------

The post has just this minute arrived.  I have 2 letters; one reminding me to renew my Road Tax @ £195 for the year, one reminding me to renew my driving licence which I hope is free.  It's now decision time about whether or not to sell my car.  I will still need to renew my driving licence if I can because I don't have a passport and it can be used for ID purposes.

I need to do some sums and decide if it's worth keeping.  I'll let you know.....

Thanks for popping in. Do stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,

Angie 💗

  1. We do get a nice breeze in our shady seating area, which is necessary through these hot days.

  2. I feel sluggish too and trying to find the enthusiasm for anything is beyond me. We don't have a hosepipe ban YET, so am only watering a couple of times a week. Now we have raised beds they dry out very quickly. The front hanging basket is hanging on, but I'm loathe to change it for winter bedding yet, although Morrisons had their winter pansies out. Take care. Xx

    1. It's not just me then ! The baskets and plants are suffering too, aren't they, Gill, we need rain. We had a small amount yesterday afternoon but it was short lived and certainly not enough.
      Have a great weekend x

  3. It's hard making a decision about cars and giving them up. My husband and I both had cars we needed them for work, when we retired we sold both of them and got a smaller, newer car. I did feel a bit odd as I had always had my own car from the age of 17. Always second hand but I still had that independence. Anyway we are used to it now and it saved on tax, insurance is less and of course only one MOT etc. It is hot isn't it but I think it is meant to be a bit cooler next week. Regards Sue H

    1. I'm reluctant to let mine go because I don't like driving Graham's automatic Polo but I don't drive very far. The question is...is it worth keeping. I'm still mulling it over.
Roll on the cooler weather. Have a great weekend x

  4. We went to one car about ten years ago. I used it as I was still working, husband had retired and just walked! Now I've given up driving; I don't feel I'm safe with my oxygen requirements. I got a passport, although I'll never go abroad, because I still had my original paper licence from 1983 and therefore had no photo id for voting, reclaiming tax overpayments, applying for a blue badge, and anything else...

    1. Photo ID is necessary for everything now isn't it, Kirsten, so I will need a licence. Unsure still whether or not to keep my little car...

  5. I'm so sorry it's so hot over there. I don't know how you manage to iron when it's hot (I rarely iron even when it is cool). We were hot last week, but, this week has been much cooler with the highs being around 86F/30C.

    1. Even 30C is too hot for me, Bless! I become a shrinking violet if the temperature exceeds around 25 C

  6. Thank goodness neither of us now iron. I couldn't have faced it in this heat and Alan went to the office in his jeans and t-shirt, he said if they aren't paying him for the current training work he's doing he had no intention of wearing a suit and tie ever again, so no more ironing for him.

I don't drive Alan's automatic car either, (perhaps I should have a go) and at the moment he can't drive my manual Fiat since he's having problems with his hand since the operation. But happily our tax is only £20 per year for me and £40 for Alan's.

I use all my washing up water and 'waiting for the hot water to kick in' water on the garden and the planters at the front of the house, but then I always do so it's no different for me really, but I hate to hear the sound of hosepipes in various back gardens every evening.

    1. I don't blame Alan for not wearing a suit in this heat. He's doing more than his share, isn't he. I know you hate ironing, Sue, but I just can't rest until bed linen is crease free ready to replace the next lot I wash ! ...lol...

I feel out of my comfort zone with an automatic car. Graham's Polo is roughly the same size as my Fox but I don't feel in control of it and the brakes are so sharp they seem to propel me forward at a rate of knotts even when I press gently. And don't even get me started on hill starts ! It scares me that I'll roll back every time :0(

Neighbours with hoses ( and jet washers today) grrrr

  7. I hope things cool down for you over the next while.

    God bless.

A Place of Calm, Stolen Sweetcorn, Peppers & Harvesting Good Things..

Despite the excessive heat, we have had to visit the allotment on a regular basis to water the produce and harvest stuff before it spoils....
