I've Heard It All Now....Decision Made

At the weekend I parked my car outside our front door as I needed to go off somewhere on an errand quite early in the day and I didn't want to have to move Graham's car off the tandem driveway to get out.  As I've said before, his car is automatic and totally outside my comfort zone 😕  Anyway, I LOVE my own little Fox and don't use it enough.  Anyway, I parked it there for convenience and drove it several times on the Saturday.  On the Sunday, the next door neighbour; a single guy in this mid/late 40's collared Gray outside and said that he was not happy with me parking on the road.  My car makes the street look untidy apparently 😂

He also said that he had spoken to 'all the other neighbours in our row' who had agreed not to park their own cars on the road.  I quickly texted my friend two doors down to ask if that was true and she laughed and said it was a load of rubbish.  He'd spoken to his other next door neighbour on the other side who had reminded him that it was none of his business and to 'go away'.

I know I'm not in anyone's way when I do this and neighbours on the opposite side of the street (at right angles to us) are totally ok with it.  I checked first.  They told me to ignore 'Moaning Myrtle'.   In the past I've had other people's visitors park right outside my door and then wake me up in the early hours when they retrieve their car.  Indeed some of them have been visiting Myrtle himself.  As you know, I was thinking of giving up my car at the end of this year.  Well...A Decision Has Been Made !

I AM KEEPING FOXY LADY FOR ANOTHER YEAR !

Reasons why :

  • I spoke to our friendly local mechanic who can see no reason for any looming expenditure on it,
  • The Road Fund Licence has increased by just £5 this year,
  • Insurance isn't due until March 2026 and is less than £300 per year
  • £20 per month spent on petrol lasts me 2 months
  • The buses are a 10 minute walk away down a steep hill (uphill on the way back of course)
  • My hips and knees give me gyp sometimes meaning walking can be uncomfortable and standing waiting for a bus in the cold is not a good prospect for the winter
  • I keep the car clean and tidy
  • And...
  • ....I refuse to be swayed by a singleton who owns 2 cars; one of which is the same age as mine but which happens to have a private number plate to disguise it's age!
A couple of days later I opened my front door, looked to the left and saw....

.... yes, you guessed it....Myrtle had parked his black vehicle on the road and tootled off for the day in car number 2 🤣
Give me strength 💪....
____________

Am I being insensitive?  Or is Myrtle being petty? Answers on a postcard please ! (I'm joking, of course !)

Tomorrow is the village annual show and we've decided to enter some apples (Gray), a couple of photographs and some handmade cards for me. I really don't expect to win anything but I love these shows with their tombola, raffles, coffee and cakes and an auction of produce at the end.  Please wish me luck! 😁

Thanks for popping in.  Do stay safe and well wherever you happen to be, and have a great weekend.

  1. Many of our neighbours moan about the parking in the close. They seem to be annoyed that I am not at all bothered [I do not own the road outside my house, I am fortunate to have space for 3 or 4 cars on my property so I can always find a parking place, I appreciate when these properties were built, not every house had a car - now many families have 2 or more, and they have to go somewhere] And the buses are unreliable and people genuinely need their cars if they are to get to work/the supermarket/ the post office. I do not like it when one person takes it upon themself to police the neighbourhood.

  2. He's parked partially on the pavement, I can't stand that, what a pain in the arse. We have a few issues with parking here, but we have enough parking on our property, so we keep quiet.
