We are quite lucky in our area that fuel prices have only risen by a penny or two per litre while some areas are reporting big increases, smacking of profiteering, due to the current world conflict. As there wasn't much of a queue at the petrol station on Monday when we went to the post office to post some birthday cards, we took the opportunity to top up the car. £20 worth of fuel should now last us about 4 weeks with a bit of luck.

I fully expect food prices to rise rapidly once again, so this week I've doubled up on the delivery. I received an email from Sainsbury's with a code for £14 off an order of £70 which was much too good to miss. I've ordered extra frozen items like bags of blueberries and forest fruits, chips, fish, bread and bread rolls etc. Also sugar, teabags, extra cheeses, grapes, bananas and satsumas, and long life milk. A few extra tins for the cupboard eg beans, fruit and salmon too. The total came to just over £92 after discounts but I feel happier having restocked the fridge, freezer and cupboard.
Are you buying extra groceries?

When we were packing our stuff to leave the hotel I popped the leftover tea, hot chocolate and biscuits into my bag. As we were leaving a day early anyway I felt justified in taking them with me 🤭
They will be enjoyed rather than wasted....
We have started getting notifications of increases in bills for the forthcoming year. Rent, Council Tax etc and the car insurance is due this month too. I really need to sit down and write a proper budget for the next 12 months to get an accurate picture of how much money we will have left to spend after bills are paid.
There are lots of birthdays in March as well as Easter 🐣 approaching. An expensive month! I must get down to it as I'm getting a bit nervous about how we will be affected in the coming months. As it is, the car insurance has rocketed from £295 paid last year to a quote of £403 this year 😱 My gosh we need to do some serious research.

Thanks for popping in. Do stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie ❤️

Goodness that's a huge jump in car insurance, hope you can find somewhere cheaper.
ReplyDeleteI was looking on line to see if there were details of April 26 onwards Council Tax, but couldn't find a total yet, no doubt the letter will arrive soon.
It's massive isn't it. Fingers crossed for cheaper insurance elsewhere. Our council tax rates should be on the App now but I need to download it to check. What a pain....
DeleteI would defiantly look for other providers for your car insurance, seams expensive, we filled up this week, we were down to quarter tank, should last us 6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteOur car is small, a VW Polo, so doesn't have a very big fuel tank. £20.01 filled it right up so we have (in theory !) about 395 miles worth of fuel. We only drive short distances so it might work out less than that but at least a month's worth of fuel. Heaven knows how high the prices will go :0/
DeleteOur car insurance shot up by almost £300 (it's for 2 cars), so we shopped around and actually got a good deal through LV for less than we paid last year on the NFU policy.
ReplyDeleteYou could not have refused a £14 off a £70 spend, that's well worth having. I always bring the little packs of biscuits home from Warner hotels, I can't eat them so Alan may as well have them for home. We also noticed that if I put the unopened ones into the drawer each day, they left us more. 😀
I am going to buy a few extra things this week, I have my emergency money to use, and I think these price hikes class as an emergency. 😄
Wow that's a hefty hike in insurance too. Glad you got it cheaper.
DeleteWe did eat some of the biscuits at lunchtime rather than buy lunch, but I couldn't bear to leave these behind!
It is definitely classed as an emergency to snap up some groceries before the price goes up...again...
Oh my goodness that is a big increase in the car insurance.
ReplyDeleteI will pick up a few things for the pantry when I am out and about on Friday.
God bless.
It did come as a bit of a shock, Jackie, I'm glad I sold my own car now.
DeleteWe have found it pays to research car insurance particularly. We managed quite a reduction getting a new insurer. I remember the days when loyalty was rewarded, not any more. Petrol here has only risen a couple of pence per litre, let's hope it stays that way. Food prices have shot up though. I get an extra couple of items each week for the store cupboard, and the freezer is almost full. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteLoyalty means nothing now does it, Sue. Fingers crossed that this fuel crisis won't last too long. I bet once the food prices go up they will never come back down either.
DeleteFuel prices have have gone up about $1 per gallon over here! I filled up my tank, last week, and I am glad I did!
ReplyDeleteI, too, fully expect food prices to go up once fuel prices go up. I try to stock up when there are sales and keep a running list of things to get. Last week, I bought canned tuna and this week, I plan to stock up on butter and breakfast sausages on sale.
$1 increase in one fell swoop is a lot. It's bound to affect everything that needs transportation isnt it Bless. It's wise to stock up a little I think.
