Firstly, thank you so much for all the comments on my last post. It's so lovely to be told that you don't mind me writing some not-so-happy- posts sometimes. It definitely helps to get things off my chest 😊
Last Thursday, we had a milder, sunnier day and decided to go to the Black Country Living Museum again for a bit of fresh air and exercise. It was lovely to find that they have won the West Midlands GOLD Award for Excellence 2026. The staff and volunteers work so hard. It's well deserved.....
It had been advertised that the former library at Woodside had been removed and rebuilt at the museum and so that was our first port of call. I remember it so well from when my sister used to live near it and I would pass it on the bus when I went to visit her. I would be about 14 at the time. They have done a splendid job. It looks as good as new....
This would have been my first port of call when I was at school...Sci-Fi ! I still love it 😁
Crikey....who would learn Chinese in the 1940 -1960's ?
This SILENCE notice is a blast from the past. Our library now is so noisy!
As you can see from the blue sky, it was a beautiful day.....
After 3 hours at the museum we were both pretty shattered. My legs ached and I just wanted to sleep. Age or B12 to blame? I don't know....
What is your staying power like 🤔?

Thanks for popping in. Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗

Oh wow, they definitely deserve to win that award. The 'new' library is wonderful addition. Most likely B12 to blame, Mum used to really run out of energy before her B12 injections.
ReplyDeleteWhat's my staying power like? I don't know I can't find it anywhere!!
It is really lovely, Sue, and worth a visit if you ever come back to the museum. I felt like a child again when I was in there with all those wonderful books from the era. You are allowed to handle them too ☺️
DeleteSorry you've mislaid your staying power too. Mine has definitely gone AWOL !

What a trip!
ReplyDeleteAbout B12; I read an article linking balance and mobility issues for seniors with long-term PPI meds, because they can reduce absorption of B12... that's things like omeprazole, lansoprazole, Usually prescribed for reflux. Oho, I thought; due to my autoimmune disease I've been taking them for over a decade... and I have an itchy tongue and can be wobbly. I've bought a jar of marmite. Scrambled eggs on marmite toast is on the menu, and I'll request a blood test. Thank you for sharing.
Oh dear...Kirsten, I read that too. I think a blood test for you is a wise move. Good luck!
DeleteMy staying power is not as good as it was, have to pace myself these days. I didn't know you liked Sc-Fi. OH is an avid reader of it and I could possibly find you some books if you want. The BCLM is always a good visit and I love that they've re-built the library. We're off for a library visit tomorrow and pick up Stepmum's prescription. Also this week, daughter has asked for garden help. Take care. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gill, for the very kind offer but I'm ok for books for a while. I still have 2 of the ones you sent me still to be read and a couple of library books too. But thank you x
DeleteI hope the weather will be ok for your gardening tasks. We've just had thick hail after a beautiful sunny morning on which I had pegged out a ton of washing! I got pelted by hailstones fetching it all back in :0(
Have a lovely weekend xx
Well done on the Museum winning the award, it looks amazing. I love anything involving libraries and books. I know what you mean about lack of staying power, I have to limit what I do in a day now and if we visit somewhere interesting I try and plan ahead and have a strategy not to cram too much in so I don't get over tired. If that does happen I feel I've missed out so I am happier limiting the visit and maybe not seeing so much but enjoying what I do see and taking it in. Old age has its difficulties doesn't it? Take care and look after yourself. Sue H
ReplyDeleteI think it must come to us all, Sue. I do agree that pacing oneself is the only way to enjoy things now. This is why we love the museum so much. One entry fee paid and the ticket is valid as often as we like for a year. There is so much to see and do there.
DeleteTake care xx
Hi, I am following you now. I love old libraries, my mom was a librarian and that was a favorite place to visit. I would load up on as many children's books as they would allow and I could carry. Three hours is my maximum being out and about; I am a senior citizen. I like the car in the photo.
ReplyDeleteHello Terra, thank you for following! Another book lover and fellow senior too, welcome!
DeleteYes, the car was lovely but looked so tiny compared to today's vehicles.
The Museum and the "new" library seems like a really nice place to visit.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid that I have no stamina, whatsoever! Not anymore. My hips and spine hurts after about 30 minutes of standing or walking!
Oh gosh, Bless, 30 mins is not much is it. Take care of yourself xx
