This week our government's generous (???) £10 each Christmas bonus dropped into our accounts. Hmm...what treats can we get for a tenner? Gray chose to spend his on a box of chocolates and a tin of delicious shortbread....
I decided to donate mine again this year and have chosen Ang & Bob's appeal for the Hospice. They have created a beautiful tableau of the Holy Family in their garage in order to raise funds. I don't know how to post a link but you will find them on Tracing Rainbows.
Anyway, they are now recipients of my own tenner. I will, of course, still take a box of biscuits to my own favourite Hospice charity shop for the staff and volunteers to enjoy in the run up to Christmas.....
What will you be spending your tenner on?

I'm finding it harder and harder to get up in a morning. It's so dark, and this morning there was heavy rain too. After a sleepless night I find I drop off in the early hours and then don't want to wake up! It was 9am again this morning. Last night I fell asleep around 1am and woke at 7.20am to the rattle and smash of the recycling collection lorry. I popped to the bathroom and then back into my warm bed until 9am. At least it means that we don't put the heating on until then, and the bungalow very soon warms up.
Are you finding it hard to get up too?

I can't believe it's now December, the last month of the year. Where has the year gone?
All our regular bills are paid by direct debit on 1st of every month so our account has taken another hit. Costs are still rising and we anticipate another big rise in rent on 1st April 2026 as well as council tax. I took my car in for MOT yesterday and it passed with no issues but there were advisories.... I will need two new front tyres in the Spring and one headlamp is letting in water. Replacement headlights are not to be found so I have made the difficult decision to sell Foxy Lady after all. Someone will either do her up or use the parts for renovating another vehicle. She is 15 years old and mileage on the clock is 31,500. Kevin, the friendly mechanic pointed out that I had only driven just over 400 miles in a year !😬
It seems a bit daft to let her sit on the drive over the Winter months while still paying tax and insurance on her.
In addition, Gray will be paying more tax on his tiny personal pension next April ( thank you, Rachel Reeves ðŸ˜) and that is what we use for our days out and entertainment budget. By selling my car, it will put around £600 per year back into the household budget to help cover any increases in 2026
---------------
We haven't been having our monthly treat since September so we are going to our favourite pub for a cooked lunch today. Two roast lunches cost £16 and drinks around £7- £8 and it means that I won't have to cook tonight, thank heavens 😉 As the weather is so mucky, we don't fancy doing much else.....
Have you any plans for the next week?
Thanks so much for popping in. Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗
We have not received our £10 yet, I always give to a decorated house who raises money for local food bank, our car spends more time on the drive, as yet I'm not ready to give it up.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good cause to donate to, Marlene, £10 these days doesn't buy an awful lot does it.
DeleteIt's a horribly drizzly day here in Suffolk today. That £10 Christmas bonus is a bit of a joke now after being the same for so long.
ReplyDeleteIt is, Sue, my mum and dad used to get a £10 bonus and mum has been gone for 16 years now; dad nearer to 25 years....
DeleteI'd already donated to Ang and Bob's fundraiser, so donated my tenner to the Salvation Army. My car has just been dropped off for its service tomorrow, we have to be at Iris's school first thing for a Carol and Cake do, and couldn't be in two places at the same time. Its been wet and murky here and the cat is leaving a trail of wet pawprints whenever she comes in. Our little house is toasty warm and the heating doesn't go on until mid-day. Xx
ReplyDeleteAnother good cause, Gill, they do so much for the homeless at Christmas.
DeleteI hope you got your car back safely.
Angie, thank you SO much - I know that Hospices are a cause close to your heart. The link is here; https://www.justgiving.com/page/bob-almond-1 .
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link, Ang, I'll pop it on my next post.
DeleteThe Canadian government doesn't do 'gifts". Nor do they do heating allowances for seniors. I dread the January and February gas bill when it hits -35
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that IS cold. It must cost you an absolute fortune to stay warm in Winter :0/
DeleteWe don't get any Christmas bonus from our government in the U.S., either, or a heating allowance. And the gas company and electricity company sent notices that rates will increase, so higher bills all around. But, I did make a donation to the Sri Lankan flood victims through the temple.
ReplyDeleteI, too, find it hard to get up in the mornings, but, that's my own fault for staying up too late! I rarely go to bed before 4:00 a.m. I've decided that I'm nocturnal and just sleep in, in the mornings.
Plans for next week include a dental appointment and a medical appointment, paying my home insurance and earthquake insurance. :)
Oh golly, Bless, at least we don't have to pay earthquake insurance. Having said that, one area of the UK did have a 3.3 earthquake this week :(
DeleteI think you have both spent your treasure from the Government very wisely, but I do hope Gray shares his little haul of goodies with you over Christmas. I don't get this bounty until next year, but I have donated to Angela and Bob's very worthwhile fund anyway.
ReplyDeleteI don't find it hard to get up, and most days I'm up at about 6am, but I do find that I could easily go back to bed halfway through the morning. Up to now I have managed to fight the urge!!
The year that my back problems kicked off my car did a grand total of 50 miles all year. The mechanic actually rang us to ask if this was the correct figure before he filled in the MOT forms. I think we will be going down to one car once we move.
Gosh, Sue, 50 miles is worse than my 400 odd! I just felt it was pointless to keep the Fox and let it sit in the bad weather for the next 3 months. It has been sold today, sadly...
DeleteWisely spending those gifts. We don't get that here in Canada. Wow that milage is very low.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
