A couple of days ago I got an estimated offer for my car from We Buy Any Car.com in the sum of £1231 so I booked it in for lunchtime yesterday. I took all the paperwork I had, along with the service records and was offered £882 despite having a full 12 months MOT. I had already made up my mind to sell so accepted the offer. Minus fees, it meant that I got a nett amount of £802 which was paid into my account within 20 minutes.
Do you know of anyone who was paid the actual initial offer?? 😕
I have to admit that it felt like taking a pet to the vet to be put down. I felt sad that it's the end of an era. I've been driving since I was 19 years old and have had my own car since I was 35 but needs must.....
Heaven knows if I can get to grips with Graham's automatic Polo.....😨

In my last post I mentioned donating my Christmas bonus to Ang & Bob's Christmas Hospice appeal but didn't know how to post a link.
The appeal page is here for anyone who wants it:

Thank you again, Angie!!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Ang x :)
DeleteI'm sorry you've had to sell your car, but, I'm confident you'll be driving the automatic car with no problems. I drive an automatic; in fact, I've no idea how to even drive a manual car!
ReplyDeleteI do hope so Bless, but I'm right out of my comfort zone in it!
DeleteI'm afraid "We buy any car" are renowned for not paying what they offer.
ReplyDeleteI guess so.... it was just the easy option to sell my car :0/
DeleteBrother in Law changed to an automatic a couple of years ago in his 60's and said it was easy! I'm not so sure, but I guess it's just a bit of practice.
ReplyDeleteHmm...time will tell!
DeleteWhilst our car is going well, we are keeping it, but eventually we will come to a point when we will sell ours, these days we only have one car.
ReplyDeleteI kept mine on while Graham was still working so that I wasn't stranded at the weekend. Bus travel isn't easy here. But now he's retired I can't justify it. Gray wants to drive as long as he's capable but our current car will be our last, I think.
DeleteSeemingly some driving instructors will give you a lesson in an automatic, that might be a wise investment. If I decide to part with my car, I too will have to learn to drive an automatic. It has never seemed like 'real' driving to me and quite a lot of the family have said the same ... Alan says it is. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy son got the full price offered by We Buy Any Car, by telling them everything that was good about his car (he's a mechanic), and walking away from the guy saying that he had had an offer just below theirs and that if they couldn't give him the full price he wasn't interested. While he changes his cars regularly he won't go back to them after having to do that.
I think my thoughts are the same as others on 'We Buy Any Car'. Not exactly the image they portray in their adverts. Hopefully you will soon get used to the Polo.
ReplyDeleteAfter driving manuals for 40 years, we had to switch to an automatic because of problems that my wife had with accelerator control following back issues. I didn't find any problems switching, except that I often want a different gear to the transmission, eg for engine breaking downhill. With our newest car, we now have both automatic mode, and manual with gear change paddles on the steering column - best of both worlds.
ReplyDeleteHi Will, that was one thing that put me off driving the Polo. If you knock the 'gear change' thingy it will go into sport mode one way and manual in the other, as well as having paddle control on the steering wheel. Too much choice for me!!!
