Since Covid, we seem to be using an awful lot of hand wash. It's not that we were lax with hand washing before, I hasten to add. We were definitely aware of hand hygiene but Covid made us all a bit OCD about it, I think, so I'm running an experiment 😉 We use soap bars in the kitchen because Gray prefers to use a bar soap after working in the garden. But....How long does one bottle of hand wash last in the bathroom? (from 24/05/25)
I also use baby powder and wanted to check how much I use. Yes, I know this brand has had a bad press but I've been using it for as long as I can remember. If it has any detrimental effect then it's already too late for me to worry about it.....
It's a big 500g container and is serving me well so far. When the brand changed the contents to corn starch, the old tubs were heavily reduced in Boots (around £2.20 I think) so I bought 6 of them. They should last a while!
After reading about Sue Hall 'Dating a Toilet Roll' I decided to date mine and see how much we use. The packs of 9 were on offer at £3.00 so I bought 3 packs before the offer expired. There are only 2 of us here but obviously we will use more if we have visitors....
I would like to check the amount of washing powder I'm currently using but will have to wait until I start a new box in order to do it properly.
How long for the toilet rolls do you think? 27 at 2 per week? 3 months maybe? We'll see. It all depends on how often we have visitors I expect 😕 I'll let you know!
Thanks for popping in. Do stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗
Your visitors might be puzzled to see all the dates on things!
ReplyDeleteThat's true, but they know I'm eccentric anyway 😂
Delete72 loo rolls a year lasts the two of us and all our visitors, and has been our consumption figure for a long time [apart from covid year, when it went down - no visitors] But I suspect that as the grandchildren become nappy-free and independent in the loo, that may go up. They seem to be quite enthusiastic at wiping!!
ReplyDeleteGosh, your consumption is very economical, Ang 😉 I find we use more if son in law visits as he always likes to make full use of our facilities !🤣
DeleteAfter I 'dated my toilet roll' I found out that each one lasts me approximately 9 days. Perhaps that would be slightly longer in Winter when I'm not grabbing a couple of sheets for nose blowing due to hay fever. The bathroom is nearer my desk than the tissue box in the living room ... and I'm a lazy oink!!
ReplyDeleteI can't really add the date to my soaps as I only use bar soaps and it would wash off every day, but they last me for ages. :-)
9 days is pretty good, Sue. I guess it depends on the quality of the product too. It made me laugh imagining trying to write a date on the bar of soap 🤣😂🤣
DeleteMy granddaughter pulls off long reams of loo paper, and I'm like you don't need that much, but hey! Just a tip, I buy the large cheap bottles of bath/shower gel (own brand) and top up my hand wash bottles with it adding a little bit of water. Xx
ReplyDeleteHey that's a jolly good idea Gill. I'm sure it will do the job just 🤔
DeleteLike you we use more soap since covid, handwashing has become more intense, loo paper disappears quicker when grandchildren are here. I don't date anything, I am actively trying not to use so much of anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping it will make us think twice before using so much. We'll see...
DeleteI am also trying to keep a better check on those items I use all the time. I want to see how long they last and if I need to make any adjustments to my buying or make a change in product. As they say 'every little helps'.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend both of you. 😊
I generally use bar soap for hand washing, but, someone gifted me with a bottle of liquid soap and I've been using that in the kitchen. I'm coming to the end of it, though, and will probably go back to using bar soap all the time. I tend to buy a pack of 8 bars of soap, twice a year, even if I have some soap leftover from the previous pack.
