I have definitely decided to turn April into a food challenge. I want to make the food I have in the house, plus the remaining £31.45 cash, feed us for 2 weeks and then use whatever Nectar points I have accumulated to feed us until the end of the month. I'll show our main meals to you on here. Sometimes it will be lunchtime and other times an evening meal, depending on what we are doing during the day.
Day 1
Salmon baked in the oven with half a jacket potato and salad plus half a shared bottle of Madri 😄We weren't particularly hungry (and you'll find out why below....) so it was plenty.________
Today we took a trip to Bewdley because it was promising to be a really beautiful day and we fancied a walk beside the river. We've had no rain for a long time. Gardens are bone dry and the river as low as I've seen it for months.
We could clearly see the river bed .....
Severe flooding has been a big problem here. The flood defences for the opposite side of the river are taking their time but progress is definitely being made, although the bridge is still closed to traffic in one direction and we had to find an alternative route home.
Below, the metal plates which the flood defences can be attached to can clearly be seen......
It cost an eye watering £4.80 for 3 hours parking 👀 We took sandwiches with us but did get tempted by a small bag of chips from the chippy to share at a cost of £2.80 Well....it would have been rude not to wouldn't it 😋
All in all a lovely day out with plenty of fresh air. Tomorrow we need to go to the allotment and give it a good watering, I need to take my book; The Long Winter, back to the library and drop another batch of cards in to the Hospice shop.
That's all for now. Thanks for popping in and do stay safe and well wherever you happen to be.
Angie 💗
Everywhere seems so dry already doesn't it, which is really surprising me after all the rain of Winter. As a country we don't seem to have good water management in place do we. You have a good selection of meals available, do you also have a good amount of dried things in the house, lentils, rice, pasta etc?
ReplyDeleteYes, Sue, everything is bone dry and our water butts are empty. Praying for rain soon because our water charges have really shot up at home.
DeleteAnd, yes, I do have dried rice and pasta in the cupboard. I don't use lentils nowadays because Gray doesn't like them and they seem to give me digestive issues for some reason. I can eat potatoes without any issues so am hoping to pick up some bags when the cheap veg appears in the shops.
For some of us £4.80 for 3 hours parking sounds like a bargain, locally we are charged up to £6/hour in some of the multistorey car parks. No wonder people avoid the city centre and go to the out-of-town retail parks.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that's a lot of money, Will :( Yes, I can see the attraction of retail parks with free or cheap parking.....
DeleteWhat a lovely day out and a shared bag of chips. I've just been out watering pots and the raised beds as they were so dry. Our lawn has gone from being a muddy mess to an arid desert with the cracks. The lawn the builders put down is c***. We will do our best to rescue it, but its going to be a battle.Xx
ReplyDeleteWhy do the builders use such poor quality turf? Our back garden is exactly the same, Gill, and 3 and a half years on it still doesn't look brilliant. xx
DeleteA shared bag of chips in the sunshine is a real treat
ReplyDeleteIt was, Angela, very naughty but very nice! It's a good job we don't do it too often though ;)
DeleteIt looks like there might be a bit of a change in the weather this week so we should have a bit of rain. I'm sure the ground will appreciate any watering. Bewedley is lovely to walk along the river . It wasn't too long ago that we visited but the water was much higher than it is now.
ReplyDeleteI really hope that we do get rain, Beverly, the garden and allotment are getting desperate. Tap water doesn't quite do the job does it 🤔
DeleteWhat a lovely day out and a delicious looking dinner. I am sure you will do well with your April challenge.
