Sell & Save Update and Other Issues....

Yay! The sun is shining! Doesn't a bit of sun make everything seem better.  It's still very wet outside but the temperature is forecast to be much milder this week, around 9 or 10C and much more comfortable.

Thank you to everyone who sent kind and encouraging messages for my Granddaughter's recovery from tonsillectomy.  It's been 10 days since her op and she is beginning to feel much better.  Her use of painkillers has dropped considerably and the throat scabs are starting to come off (sorry if you're squeamish) so I'm hoping she's turned a corner.  She has the rest of this week off work and now needs to regain her strength and energy.

Gray and I haven't done an awful lot of anything over the past week or so, just chores (me) and a bit of weeding and preparation at the allotment ( Gray) The propagator has been dusted off, seed compost purchased and the seed potatoes set on the window ledge for chitting.  I'm not convinced that chitting makes the slightest difference, but it's going ahead...

We have the club on Wednesday afternoon to look forward to this week.  The speaker is local historian and author Ned Williams and I'm really looking forward to that 👍

I finally have an eBay sale for my Sell & Save challenge! The princely sum of £14.41 after postage costs, and I have a bid on another item which ends tonight.  It takes ages to get your money after a sale now though.  Ebay will only pay out once delivery is confirmed and yet the cost of postage comes out of my account before I actually get payment for the item 😏 Change is rarely for the better on eBay.....

How is eBay for you since the changes? Are you still selling?

Anyway, that's all for today.  Thanks for popping in and stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,

Angie 💗

  1. I stopped using eBay years ago, I found items always sold for less, i use our local marketplace on Fbook, tho I don't sell much now as I've purged most of our unwanted stuff.

    1. eBay is definitely not what it used to be. I've been selling odds and ends for more than 23 years and have noticed a decline over the years. I've never tried FB marketplace.

  2. I've never bought or sold on Ebay... I know I'd hate the packing and posting bit!

    1. I've never really minded that aspect of selling. I've always saved packaging and boxes for reuse 😊

  3. I used to sell a fair bit of unwanted stuff on ebay then the payment method changed, then it changed again whereby eBay hung onto your money for a few days before paying out. It sounds like it's changed again - not for the better by the sound of it! I won't be using it to sell, but will buy whenever I'm after something.

  4. I gave up on selling on eBay. I had buyers bidding and not paying - that didn't cost me but it meant I had to wait until they had failed to pay for several days and then had to list it again. I had a buyer win an auction and then try to haggle. I decided that (for me) I'd rather donate to a charity shop. I'm not sure what I would have done in the days when I really desperately needed the money. All I care about no is that I don't need the stress!

    1. Yes, non paying bidders have always been a pain to deal with. Fortunately, I've never had too many and always blocked them so that they could never bid on my stuff again.

  5. I do eBay and have done for years. Since the recent changes for private sellers, I’ve sold little. It’s a nightmare! Firstly, they are now charging buyers a so called ‘protection fee’ so that bumps up the cost of items. Secondly, if you don’t send items via a tracked service, you have to wait 14 days for your payment! 14 days! For someone like me, selling a few fabrics and craft items, I’m not prepared to put up my postage costs as I use the local post box which is easy for me and rarely does anything go missing. eBay has not only hurt private sellers but it’s hurt buyers too. I think it only cares about bigger businesses now. Greed reigns! I’ll be leaving at some point as I feel quite cross about it all.

    1. Oh Sal, I feel for you. Sellers of low cost items are suffering badly. Postage has rocketed and eBay doesn't seem to value you anymore do they. I suppose business sellers are more lucrative. It's most unfair when you are just trying to make a few pounds from crafting. I hope your sales pick up soon.

  6. Glad to hear that your Granddaughter is recovering.
I've not sold on eBay for years now. I had a few people tell me things hadn't arrived when I knew for a fact that they had been signed for, and I could longer cope with the hassle. Now I just use Facebook Marketplace for larger home items, if they don't sell I then donate them to the larger charity shop. All small items and clothes go to our local children's hospice shop and any books that I am not keeping go on the charity book table in Booths.

  7. Thank you Sue. It's such a relief that she's feeling better now.

I'm lucky regarding problem buyers on eBay as they have been few and far between over the 23 years I've been selling. The odd few were obviously up to no good but in the main have been fine. It's eBay itself which has caused issues :(

  8. I'm glad to read that your granddaughter is feeling a bit better. Hope she continues to recover.
Glad you sold one of your items on eBay, even though their policy changes have made it more difficult. I have not sold or bought anything on eBay, so, haven't had any experience with them.
