It's been so blooming hot over the last few days that we haven't felt like going out at all. Any temperature over about 23 C melts us 🫠and, at times, it's been 28 C in the house despite having closed the windows and blinds, and putting the fan on 😱
Sleeping has been problematic too with the heat lingering well into the night. As we have a bungalow we can't leave windows open at night so, as soon as it's light, I throw the bedroom window wide open to let in the cool morning air. Bliss !
Last night I was still awake at midnight and saw the flash of lightning but heard no thunder. It gradually came closer, noisier and then the few drops of rain turned into a torrent. I opened the window and let the cool air in whilst I stood watching the storm. It was so refreshing and it's certainly refreshed the garden as well as us!
The weather is set to cool down next week and give us a little respite, thank goodness.

I love ❤️ poppies so last year at the allotment I sprinkled the seeds from a couple of self sown poppies along the side of the shed. When we went to water on Tuesday we saw these.....
They are absolutely massive and are a beautiful colour, I think. And there are lots of them!!
Bloom where you are sown, I say 😉
‐--------------------
Each Tuesday we are still visiting the library in the morning before the heat builds up and researching the family tree.....
There's nothing exciting found so far but I do enjoy the change of scene, a comfy chair and a
drink whilst Gray carries on at the computer........
-----------
That's all for now folks. My back is playing up again and I can't sit comfortably (nor walk for that matter 😕) until the pain eases off. It came on suddenly yesterday (no idea what I had done to deserve it) and the pain was another reason I couldn't sleep last night.
Hey, ho....such is life...time for more painkillers.
Thanks for popping in and stay safe wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗
It is slightly cooler here today but but not enough to notice, I hate to winge about the weather but it is really too hot for me. Oh well Sunday looks a lot cooler. Those poppies are such a gorgeous colour, very exotic looking. Our poor garden is so dry along with everyone elses but it is the farmers who I feel sorry for and then of course it will affect us all with food prices. Goodness I'm turning into a right moaning minnie. My Husband found out with his family history that his 6th time grandfather was deported to Australia for writing a threatening letter to a rich landowner saying he would burn his hayricks if he didn't pay his farm workers a better wage. He left his wife and two children behind. He served 10 years but then was allowed his freedom to stay there but never come back to England. He was an agricultural labourer and was welcomed as workers on the land were needed. He actually had a better life out there in the end. More than his poor wife who ended up in the poor house. Good luck with your research. I hope your back eases up, back pain is horrible. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteWinge away, Sue, it's far too hot and uncomfortable!
DeleteI wonder what happened to the two children of the man deported to Australia. Poor wife left to cope :(
Thank you for the back pain sympathy, It's much appreciated x
It is a little cooler today but we have still spent most of the day inside. The thunder and lightening kept me awake last night but it did help to freshen the air.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful display of poppies and aren't they a stunning colour.
Ouch! I feel for you with your back pain. It is frustrating when it happens and you can't think of anything you have done to cause it. Rest up and I hope it feels better soon x
It was a wonderful display of lightning wasn't it. I just hope no-one had their house struck .....
DeleteThanks for the sympathy, Beverley, I have felt really sorry for myself :0(
Yesterday and today have been a bit cooler than Monday and Tuesday. I've been doing odd bits outside and indoors - I always have windows wide open and curtains closed - then back in with plenty of water and reading.
ReplyDeleteThose poppies are a lovely colour, very few here this year after lots last year but always a pale colour
I'm sure that the poppy seeds came from a much paler lilac version. It's very strange.....
DeleteStunning poppies, its much cooler here today, I would like dome rain, 🤞🤞
ReplyDeleteThe rain in the early hours was so very welcome. I hope you get some soon!
DeleteSuch gorgeous poppies!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry it is so hot over there and I hope it cools down soon. Of course, 23C (73F) is not exactly what I'd consider to be even warm and 28C (82F) would be quite comfortable for me. I love summer when it is in the 90s (32-37C); it gets hot once we get to 110F (43C). My house isn't air conditioned, either, but, I do have fans. :)
Oh my gosh, I couldn't cope with anything as hot as you get, Bless. You are one strong woman!
DeleteThose poppies are such a gorgeous colour and look at how tall they are!
ReplyDeleteI have been heading out early to work as well in the yard, but I think I just may have to go out and give my newly potted plants another drink tonight.
God bless.
I'm really pleased with the poppies, Jackie, but didn't expect them to be quite so tall...lol...
DeleteGorgeous poppies. I absolutely love ❤️ poppies, one of my favourite flowers.
ReplyDeleteThus far and thank goodness the weather here in Montreal has been comfortable and cool. Our last two summers were absolutely wicked. Extremely hot 🔥 🥵 and humid.
Warm greetings from a retired lady.
Long may your comfortable weather continue! I long for spring then get far too hot!
DeleteGlad you like my poppies :)
Your poppies are beautiful, what a glorious colour. It's possibly the heat making your back worse as heat really aggrivates any inflammation, I really know that this week. 😟
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are right about heat affecting back pain, Sue, it's so miserable when you can't cool off at night. I end up tossing and turning and my back hurts more :(
DeleteSo sorry you are feeling it too xx
Thosse Poppies are a gorgeous colour.
ReplyDeleteI did get your message and Thank you. Glad to hear about the success of your cards in the hospice shop. It's quite rewarding in a way isn't it, knowing our hobby benefits others and gives us pleasure too?
My back ihas been playing up too.Hope your back improves soon.
On Sunday morning, I woke up after dreaming about being in pain, then I tried to get out of bed, this time the pain was for real! David had to get me out of bed. I couldn't sit or stand or lie in any position for very long at all. It's easier but still painful.
Take Care
Oh Kim, how I feel for you with your back pain. It's so debilitating and yours sounds worse than mine. I do hope you feel better soon. My pain has now moved to my hip :/
DeleteYes, it is rewarding to find my cards are selling so well. I only wish I could make more each week but I can't sit for too long at a time. it's gratifying when the shop staff greet me like a friend and customers pounce on the latest batch! It really is good for the soul.
Take care of yourself, Kim, and get well soon xx
