Yet another week has flown by in a flurry of rain, sun and frost, seemingly all at random!
I had a Sainsburys delivery yesterday of bits and pieces of party food to put into the garage freezer and I've defrosted the kitchen freezer this morning in readiness for entertaining. I don't really want to be darting out to the the garage in the cold to retrieve the Boxing Day food so intend to transfer it to the kitchen the day before. I therefore need to make room! We have been eating up the odds and ends this week and there is light at the end of the tunnel 😉

I've had a sore tongue for the last week which has been pretty miserable. I can see a tiny little ulcer on the tip and, boy, it's uncomfortable. The pharmacy recommended Corsodyl mouthwash but it stings like billy-o so I can't use it. Research suggests it can make things worse too. Apparently some toothpastes can be an irritant if they contain sodium lauryl sulphate and one of mine does contain it, so I'm sticking to Sensodyne for now. I'm not eating spicy food, not drinking alcohol etc Mr Google suggests low iron or B12 but my last blood test showed normal ferritin levels and I was told I'm not deficient in anything ??
Luckily, I have a dental check-up booked for tomorrow so I'll ask my dentist what he think is causing it. Thank goodness we still have an NHS dentist. I know many people don't.....

It's the Chancellor's budget speech this afternoon. My heart sinks. What will she do now? At least we have the promise of Winter Fuel Payment this year. Phew....
Take care. Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗

£200 WFA will be wiped out by her still freezing tax thresholds. Many pensioners will be paying tax on that £200 for the first time. Robber Reeves strikes again.
ReplyDeleteI do so agree. My own personal pension income is still below the tax threshold, but not for much longer if it's frozen until 2031.
DeleteHope you find a speedy solution for your sore tongue!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kirsten, me too...
DeleteIf you can get sublingual B-12, they definitely help with ulcers. I get them when I feel run down. But only take iron supplements under a doctor's orders. Take care and feel better. Bun
ReplyDeleteOoh...I'll look that up, thank you :)
DeleteSeemingly now that Alan is in receipt of his state pension he will be getting the WFA, and then it will be claimed back in instalments as he is a tax payer ... what a silly way to do things. Our Government and the Inland Revenue seem to be very good at creating unnecessary work for themselves.
ReplyDeleteI hope your dentist can help more with advice about your ulcer than the pharmacist did.
WFA claimed back from Alan? What on earth.... stupid system.
DeleteThank you Sue, my sore tongue is really miserable :0(
Mouth ulcers are horrible. I find Bonjella very good if difficult to apply because it slips off the tongue being wet. I hope the dentist can help. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteI did think of trying Bonjella if the dentist can't help. Thanks, Sue.
DeleteWhat was it we used to rub on babies gums when they were teething? Not even sure if that would help but hopefully your dentist will.
ReplyDeleteMy winter fuel payment went into the bank mid month with my pension and great joy! I don't have an income anywhere near enough to have to pay it back - not sure if that's good or bad?
I think it was Bonjella, Sue, the other Sue above has mentioned it.
DeleteI got my winter fuel payment paid in today but Gray is still waiting for his. At least I won't worry about the energy bills as much this winter. I had no idea that some people have to pay it back.
Boots sell a mouth ulcer pastille that might work better for you, or your Dentist could probably recommend something. I hate going to the Dentist as I had a very bad experience with one. The Dentist I've found in Belper is lovely as is the Hygenist Clare. We are getting the WFP, which has surprised us as we didn't think we would qualify. Good luck for tomorrow. Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gill, I'll bear that in mind about the pastilles. I definitely need SOMETHING to sooth my tongue!
DeleteWell done on getting the WFA. It certainly helps, doesn't it.
How are you getting on with The Midnight Library BTW? I've just finished it and enjoyed the magical element of it :)
I absolutely loved it. Am now reading The Carousel by Rosamunde Pilcher, also just finished The Shell Seekers by her. Enjoyed both of them. If you haven't read her, its another one to try. How did the Dentist visit go? Xx
DeleteI love Rosamunde Pilcher too and have read most of her books over the years. The Midnight Library was lovely wasn't it. If only real life could be dealt with so easily ;)
DeleteDentist visit only a partial success. My next post explains it all!
I hope that your tongue heals soon or that your dentist gives you an idea on how to heal it or at least make it less painful.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hope your tongue is feeling better and the dentist can recommend something to help.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we have anything like a Winter Fuel Payment over here.
I have had a very sore mouth my gum seemed bruised couldn’t eat on one side of my mouth I swilled my mouth with Celtic salt crystals which has cleared it up in only a couple of days maybe this might help you.carole
