Dentists, Frustration & a Thank You.....

Thank you to everyone who commented on my last post, and thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions too.  My dental consultation was partly successful but hasn't resolved the issue of my sore tongue.  The good news is that the dentist could find nothing seriously wrong with my mouth but the bad news is that he thinks I have 'burning mouth syndrome', for which there is no cure, as such 😭I asked about B12 supplements and he agreed that they could do no harm, and he gave me a prescription for steroid mouthwash tablets; swish 4 times a day for a week to reduce inflammation.  OK so far so good.....

Do you think anyone stocks the blooming things?  Of course not.  Every pharmacy I tried has none, can't get them and even online they are unobtainable!  I rang the surgery this afternoon and my dentist is off until Monday.  No one else can help.  For goodness sake 😫

None of the pharmacies had any sublingual B12 (thank you Bun!) nor pastilles (thanks Gill!)

I ended up buying ordinary high strength B12 tablets and have ordered both the sublingual version and the mouth ulcer pastilles online from Boots.  Unfortunately, the collection date will be 4th December at the earliest.  I despair sometimes....

This evening it's the village Christmas lights switch on...yay!  The whole family are going to come so I'm looking forward to it.  We've just had a downpour of rain so I hope that's the end of it for today.

Thanks for popping in.  Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,

Angie 💗

  1. Burning mouth syndrome sounds awful. really hope something helps.

For cancer patients with sore mouths they give out ice -pops, just to cool the mouth down I guess. Colin had lots and they were good for a bit of extra liquid too

    1. Thank you, Sue, I tried ice lollies yesterday and they do help a bit, albeit temporarily.

  2. Oh dear, I know pharmacists are having trouble sourcing stock and one of our pharmacies in Belper has closed down, due to not being able to keep a pharmacist (the company doesn't have a good name in the business), but it means we have had to transfer our prescriptions to Morrisons. At least you know that they are coming and I do hope the pastilles help. We are on a yellow weather warning for tomorrow, so don't think we will be going very far. Xx

    1. It's worrying how many pharmacies are actually closing down, isn't it. We only have a small Boots in our village, anything else is a drive away. Not good when you feel unwell.
It's been wet and windy all day today. Staying put! xx

  3. So sorry that you did not manage to get those tablets. I need to look up burning mouth syndrome. It sounds horrible.

    God bless.

  4. I had Burning Mouth Syndrome at one time several years ago. Felt like I burned my palate and tongue with hot pizza. I took "Alpha Lipoic Acid" supplements...600 mg per day. Took a week or so to start working but eventually it went away. My doctor recommended it. Best of luck!

    1. You have described it perfectly. Thank you for sharing your own experience, it gives me a little hope that it might eventually go away. I might try the supplements at some point. Thank you :)

  5. So sorry to hear that the dentist couldn't really help with your sore tongue and you've had trouble trying to fill the prescription at the pharmacy. Maybe try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water to see if that helps?
Enjoy the tree lighting with your family. Sounds like a fun event. :)

  6. I suffer with Burning Mouth Syndrome. The best thing that helps me is a probiotic toothpaste that I buy online from a company called Gutology. It’s not cheap but I wouldn’t be without it now. Might be worth a try.
