On Wednesday, the day before our wedding anniversary, we fancied a day out and decided to visit Bantock Park in Wolverhampton. It's not too far from home and has free parking, which is always a bonus. Although the house wasn't open to the public on that day, we had a lovely brisk walk around the gardens and then treated ourselves to a pot of tea in the cafe. The upper level of the cafe was obviously part of the original house and it has a wonderful fireplace. Possibly Art Nouveau? I always get confused between Art Deco and Art Nouveau!
It turns out that our daughter either has a really bad cold or possibly Covid π°so she was wise not to pass it on. She is feeling quite rough, even today, three days later...

We had a bit of sad news on Thursday. My brother-in-law passed away on Wednesday afternoon. He had been ill for some time and, in fact, the prognosis back in May was 4 - 6 weeks when he was sent home from hospital. I'm fairly sure I mentioned it at the time so he has had extra time to be with his family. It's still sad because my sister lives so far away that I can't help her π’

Thanks for popping in. Do stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie π
Art Deco is geometric, art nouveau or jugend (same thing) is organic. The fireplace doesn’t look like either, just decorative and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for clearing up my confusion! The reason I plumped for Art Nouveau is that there was a lovely swirly flower pattern on the actual fireplace, although it's not clear in the photo.

ReplyDeleteLovely idea.
Thank you! Lovely!
DeleteDear Angie, I am sorry for your loss and hope your daughter recovers quickly. Thank you for your lovely message of support regarding my diagnosis, a random act of kindness much appreciated. I hope you get to visit your sister at some point. I like the doll you found!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. It's always such a long time before a funeral here that one feels in limbo.
DeleteI will be thinking of your own situation, e, and keeping you in my prayers.
Angie, I was sorry to read about your brother in law, but I'm sure his family were glad of the extra time with him. You also had a lovely day out, in all the time we lived near Wolverhampton we never visited Bantock Park - smacked wrists. Spending tomorrow taking the stair carpet up ready for the new one on Monday. I've hated the carpet ever since we moved in, it shows every mark and cat hair (she's moulting for Britain). Take care. Xx PS Hope you enjoyed the books. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gill.
DeleteWe hadn't visited Bantock for years and had forgotten about it. We will certainly be going again soon.
I'm still reading the Amanda James book (almost finished) and am thoroughly enjoying such a lovely gentle read. Heidi Swain will be next! Thank you so much xx
Happy anniversary! Beautiful flowers from your daughter. I hope she feels better, soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law's passing. My condolences to your family. I hope that you will be able to visit with your sister soon.

ReplyDeleteLovely cheerful flowers from your daughter and I hope she is well again soon.

DeleteSo sorry about your brother-in-law, it is hard particularly when family live a long way from you. I hope your daughter soon feels better. Here in East Sussex there is a lot of covid about. The flowers look lovely and certainly are colourful. Happy anniversary. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sue x
DeleteI am sorry to read about the loss or your brother-in-law. How wonderful that he had longer to spend with his family. I hope your daughter gets better soon. Love the flowers she left for the two of you.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, Jackie x
DeleteSorry to hear about your brother in law, and I hope your daughter soon feels better. There's a lot of bugs of all descriptions around at the moment, she was thoughtful to leave your lovely flowers etc for you and then retreat with her germs.
ReplyDeleteThe fireplace is neither Deco or Nouveau, but it is very unusual. I like the insert but not the chessboard-like surround.
Thank you, Sue.
DeleteRe the fireplace; when we first walked in it seemed incongruous but, having sat there with a pot of tea for while, it kind of grew on me and I could imagine it having a place in a living room at the house.
