Strawberry Thief and Yummy Stuff

Now that our veg plants are doing well after the recent rainy spell, I'm getting excited!  We are beginning to harvest:

Broad beans

Brocolli

Cucumbers (mini)

Baby potatoes

Radishes

Beetroot

and

more Rhubarb than we can eat

The tomatoes and peppers in our little greenhouse have fruit on them now too.  We did have some gooseberries on the bushes at the allotment (proof below) .... but they have vanished 🫣 as have a fair number of strawberries. Animal or human thieves?  We have no idea 🤔

How are your gardens doing? Any harvests yet?

Thanks so much for popping in.  Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,

Angie 💗

  1. My mini cucumber plant is struggling, it's got a 50/50 chance of survival, I'm getting small harvest on other things, I've kept all my strawberries this year, I pop a small net bag over the green fruits, stops anything nibbling them.

    1. I don't think we were quick enough, Marlene : 0/ but the gooseberries were very prickly so I'm surprised that they are all gone. The cucumbers are all struggling this year but my one plant is doing it's best!

  2. So far the only thing I have been lucky enough to harvest is rhubarb, but the garden seems to be growing very well right now. We could use a nice soaking rain though.

    God bless.

    1. Rain makes a big difference, doesn't it. I hope you get some soon, Jackie.

  3. How wonderful to harvest all that produce from your garden! I've picked one tomato and several wax beans, so far, plus blueberries and peaches. My cucumber seeds didn't germinate and I am planning to plant the okra and corn in the next week or two.

  4. For the first time in 3 years we've got apples & pears on our trees - tiny at present but getting bigger by the day. Cucumbers hanging on - we've eaten just one so far. Lots of tiny green tomatoes growing on 8 greenhouse plants and 4 outdoor ones. Rhubarb came to life just as we were about to dig it up - loads of it. Kale has done well - not for us but for our 2 rabbits.

    1. Wow, it sounds great! I'm hoping that our apple harvest will be better this year. We were forced to cut the tops off the trees at the allotment which spoiled the growth last year. Hoping they are recovering ...

  5. Such a shame that you missed out on the gooseberries, I almost hope it's animal theft and not human. Stealing what someone else has worked hard to grown is unforgivable ... unless you are a hungry mouse!!

Rhubarb freezes really well, so I'm going to get all ours picked, washed, chopped and in the freezer ready for a Winter's worth of fruit pies and crumbles next week.

    1. I hope it's animals too, Sue, but we have had thefts of fruit and veg in the past.
Ooh yes, rhubarb, we've given so much away but now it's time to do as you say; harvest and freeze :)

  6. For the last few years, somebody has stolen all the gooseberries on the village allotments. Nobody knows how this happens or who is doing it.

    1. Oh no, Angela, that is awful. Last year our plot neighbour lost every one of his cherries overnight just as they ripened. No birds would have taken the lot in one night (surely) same with the gooseberries and strawberries .....

  7. I'm picking strawberries, not many but enough to top some yogurt. We have tomatoes on our 2 plants, the cucumber plant is struggling. Now our garden is tiny compared to what we had, but finding in this hot weather we're not eating as much anyway. Xx

    1. You can't beat fresh strawberries for taste can you, Gill, I love them. Oh dear....another struggling cucumber plant. They really don't like vast changes in temperature like we've been having.
