Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my last post. I definitely felt a bit better after venting my feelings and, it seems, a lot of you are in agreement and feel exactly the same about the current system of pensions and benefit payments. Unfortunately, we are powerless to change things.

Changing the subject entirely....
I was running out of card blanks which I use for my charity cards and, in fact, I had just 4 left and lots of ideas still running through my head, but very little money in my purse. On Saturday I risked my last £2 on a scratchcard and won £10 ! That was the exact amount required to purchase another 100 card blanks from Hobbycraft so I'm back in business as it were 😀 That is potentially a £2 outlay which will turn into £100 for the Hospice because I already have stocks of adhesive, mirri card, display bags and embellishments etc from my craft fair days. I dropped another batch into the shop this morning and noticed that there were just 5 cards left in the basket. Apparently, a lady had just been in and bought 6 of them 👍As long as I have materials I will carry on making them 😊

The promised rain never materialised here at the weekend and today (Wednesday) has been very hot again. Everything in the garden as well as the allotment is bone dry. We are saving as much water from the house as we can to water the pots with because our water butts are empty. We don't want to use the hose as water is so expensive and we need to cut back, but we can't let our food crops die.
Do you think there will be veg shortages due to lack of water for the farmers?
This was our basket last year. Not sure it will be as good this year.....

I have only recently started reading your blog and I enjoy it very much.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely comment 😊 Thank you, Susan!
DeleteWe have very little saved rain water left and like you are saving grey water from the house, I only have a small veg section, but I am trying to keep it growing. It's hard because my horrible neighbour was watering her garden yesterday at 2pm in full sunlight with a hose splashing it everywhere.
ReplyDeleteOh no, Marlene, what a daft thing to do. Splashes on your plants will burn the leaves won't they. She has no consideration at all by the sound of it. Let's pray we all get rain soon...
DeleteHow wonderful that you were able to turn your last £2 into £10, which was exactly what you needed to buy the card blanks! I'm sorry you are still waiting for it to rain. Our rainy season is more or less over, and I am watering the garden 3 times a week with a garden hose. Our water is metered and I do pay for it. But, very little will grow in our climate without watering during the summer.
ReplyDeleteGardens do need so much rain. Ours is suffering badly.
DeleteWell done on your win and for re-stocking your supplies with those winnings. Being able to 'donate' a £100 to the hospice while still keeping to your tight budget is really good. It all helps.
ReplyDeleteIn our area they are saying that British grown vegetables and some fruits will be in short supply, and there is talk of hosepipe bans in the near future if we don't have some rain very soon.
I feel so sorry for the farmers. It will be a bad year for them if the crops don't get rain soon. Prices are sure to rise...
Deletehello, been reading for a while now. Perhaps I could help with your card blanks and envelopes. I have more than I'll ever use use. Please let me know what sizes you use and I'll send you some.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, I've just sent you an email regarding your lovely comment.
DeleteHi Angie, sorry, I'd forgotten to change my email address. I've amended it now. Will look out for your email tomorrow. Kim
DeleteWhat a lovely win for you and the Hospice you support. I risked planting up my hanging basket with some lovely petunias, a cream and lavender blue stripe colour which I'd never seen before in our local garden centre. Its not the cheapest place, but the plants are always in good condition and it has a lovely tearoom - always a bonus. Xx
ReplyDeletePetunias are so pretty aren't they and a good cuppa as well! Lovely 😍 xx
DeleteYou have a lovely blog 😊 Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada ❤️ 🇨🇦
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comment Linda 😊
DeleteHow wonderful that you won and were able to stock up on card blanks once again. I am sure the charity shop loves you dropping cards off for the charity.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They really are selling quickly, Jackie, it's so gratifying. I am thoroughly enjoying making them 😊
DeleteHi Angie, I forgot to change my email address on my profile. I've done that now, so please message me again and I'll send you the card blanks.
ReplyDeleteTake care. Kim
I'm struggling to find your email address, Kim. The only one I can see is the Tesco one on your old blog. Sorry if I'm being a bit thick.....🤔
DeleteAngie
Hi Angie, it's not you. Ive changed my email address but Blogger won,t accept it, just keeps throwing me out. Are you on facebook at all? You can find me as Kim Cranson on there and we can PM each other
ReplyDeleteWe have had very little rain here too. In our small patch we have used far more mulch around crops to try and keep any moisture in. I hope the farmers don't lose their precious crops to drought. That would be dreadful.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing with your cardmaking for the hospice. I hope the cards raise lots of very needed funds.
Have a good week x
I agree about the farmers, Beverley, it would be devastating for them and us.
DeleteThanks so much for your kind comments re my fundraising efforts! ;)
