'Free' Nectar Shop & Picking Up The Protein

I had a comment on my challenge post regarding the apparent lack of protein in our meals.  It was by no means taken as criticism but I would like to explain that we do, in fact, eat some form of protein every day, just not at every meal. I really don't like eating meat and Gray hates beans...any beans other than tinned baked beans or green beans.  He won't eat lentils and my IBS means that I have to limit the amount I eat too.  We both like fish, Quorn, eggs and dairy so that is mainly where our protein comes from.  I do buy some form of meat for Gray but he only likes a small amount these days. For example, the pack of beef shown below will be slow cooked with mounds of carrots and onions, and will serve him with 3 portions, either on a jacket potato or with fresh veg on the side.......

The total spent was £15.34 made up of £15.00 Nectar Points plus 34p cash

I could have done without the apple pies but I had a few pence left to reach £15 and these were on a yellow sticker at 70p.  Gray will be a happy bunny tonight!

I'm quite pleased with that.  We didn't need the eggs particularly as I had had half a dozen in the delivery, but they were on a Nectar price of £1.32 instead of £1.65 and I can make a quiche or frittata for the middle of next week.  Oh, and sliced boiled egg sandwiches for a picnic lunch too.

Have a great Sunday folks.

Oh, yes...almost forgot....  Happy Star Wars Day!

    1. Lots more vitamins in veg! And Quorn contains protein too.

  2. We do too... I bulk out the meat with extra veg.

  3. You certainly do well with the nectar discounts and points!

I can't eat chick peas, lentils etc, they give me stomach cramps so best avoided, which means many vegetarian recipes are no good.
Cheese and eggs and a little meat are hopefully enough and there is protein in smaller amounts in flour and veg anyway

    1. They seem to affect me in a similar way, Sue, and I agree that there is protein in lots of things which we don't always realise is there.

  4. You did very well on that shopping trip, using your points for most of what you bought! Over here, the recommended daily allowance of protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight. The commonly quoted recommendation is 56 grams for men and 46 grams for women. One large egg usually contains 6 grams of protein, a 5 oz. serving of Greek yogurt contains 14 grams of protein. I don't think I get my recommended daily allowance of protein!

    1. The recommended amount is very similar here too, Bless. I don't worry about it too much as we eat fish regularly and there is protein in Quorn too. I'd rather concentrate on eating colourful food to ensure we get all our vitamins and minerals :)

  5. Oh I get so fed up of the 'you don't eat enough protein' comments whenever I do a meal plan or show what I eat. So many people forget that there is protein in everything except fats and sugar. Over the course of a normal day of food, most of us will get the at least the recommended daily quota of protein. Enjoy the apple pies. :-)

    1. It does come up on a regular basis doesn't it, Sue, and you're right, I'm sure we do eat enough without having to count it all the time.
Graham was very happy when he spotted the box of pies. So far we've had one each but I know he won't be able to resist another couple tonight!
