We have never been successful in growing bell peppers up to now, so I was delighted yesterday to see two beautiful yellow ones on the plant, glowing bright and glossy like little suns 😃 I'll let you know how they taste.....
Our Roma tomatoes taste ok but nothing to write home about. I guess they will all end up being cooked. As we don't make much pasta sauce, I don't think we will grow them next year either. The ones at the bottom of the plant were enormous and then the ones further up get smaller and smaller .....
Our most successful crop so far has been the French climbing beans. We are picking some every other day and my freezer is getting fuller by the minute. We should have enough to last us into the Autumn at least. The raspberries too are ripening on a daily basis but we are eating them as soon as they are picked. There is no shortage of people to share with either !
Speaking of sharing....we are getting lots of windfall Bramley apples again and they are spoiling before we can get to them. Any that can be rescued, as well as any that easily come away from the tree, are being shared between us, my Daughter, my Brother, my lovely neighbours and any fellow allotmenteers who want some. They are not, strictly speaking, ripe yet, but make delicious pies and crumbles, especially with blueberries or raspberries added to them. Anyone for stewed apple and custard? 😋

Thanks so much for popping in. Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗
Stewed apple and ice-cream for me please. :-)
ReplyDeleteRoma tomatoes are best cooked, if you don't use much pasta sauce could you try some ratatouilles or maybe cream tomatoey curries instead with them.
Or soup. Much nicer than tinned tomato soup.
ReplyDeleteThere's a brilliant way of cooking fish in the oven; oven roast tomatoes onions sliced potatoes peppers in a little olive oil for 20 mins at 180 turning once, clear a bit of space and lay in fillets of salmon or sea cream or sea bass, season and add lemon slices, roast another 8 -12 mins. Bbcgoodfood. It's a sort of Tom Kerridge.
ReplyDeleteVery good looking peppers, mine are still all green - and small
ReplyDeleteSliced tomatoes, onions and courgettes, hint of garlic and herbs, cooked in veg stock and sprinkled with cheese. We are picking blackberries and windfall apples, all in the freezer ready for winter crumbles. Xx
ReplyDeleteI have a small green pepper slowly turning red - nothing as good as your golden beauties
ReplyDeleteThe peppers look super, I bet they will taste delicious. Raspberries are so scrummy aren't they? I love cooked apples in anything. Funny enough we had two good sized windfall apples from a neighbour and several small ones. I cooked the small ones and have frozen them but the two bigger ones, I cored, put some raisins in husband's and just cinnamon sprinkled on mine and baked whilst I had the oven on. They were lovely with Greek yoghurt. Regards Sue H
