The Mystery of the Vanishing Tomatoes & Another Batch

Yesterday I decided to pick the next 2 ripest Roma tomatoes from the greenhouse,  They have vanished ! 😕 If you look where my fingers are you can see the little stalks are still there but ...no tomatoes to be seen 🤔 Gray swears he didn't touch them and they are not in the fridge.  I'm at a loss to explain it......

At least my Sungold and the other red tomatoes (which I've forgotten the name of) are doing well....

...despite the odd bit of blossom end rot.  I pick the fruit off as soon as I spot any.

The cucumbers are really struggling with the hot weather though. Although they are trying their best to survive and so far have yielded 11 mini cucumbers, they don't look their best with yellowing leaves and shrivelled embryo fruit....

I must admit that I am over the moon happy with my pepper plant 😄  There are loads of big green peppers on the plant which should turn yellow as they ripen. Think salads, stir-fries, traybake veg ....yum!

Today (Monday) has been a bit cooler, thank heavens, so I took the opportunity to pop another batch of cards into the Hospice shop.  I'm so glad I did because there were just 3 left in the basket.  Another 15 donated, making a total of 163 since the end of March this year.
A sample below:

Thanks so much for popping in.  Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗

  1. Let us know if you find the tomato thief, my inside plants are struggling, I'm sure it's the compost, my outside plant is good. Both my cucumber plants decided not to grow, so I'm having to buy them.

    1. How frustrating to lose your cucumber plants. Bought compost leaves a lot to be desired :(

  2. That would make a good title for a whodunit book. It is a mystery I wonder who scoffed the tomatoes? We have had no rain here in East Sussex just very high winds but it is cooler. Lots of our plants look scorched. We badly need rain, I think we need to do a rain dance. Your peppers look great. Regards Sue H

    1. A rain dance is a very good idea, Sue. We've not had the rain which was promised here either and everything is looking scorched. At the moment, it's gone cool, windy and overcast so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for rain today. I hope you get some too :)
Maybe I should write a book! We've had vanishing tomatoes, disappearing gooseberries as well as scoffed sweetcorn at the allotment too last year! Lol....

  3. It could be mice as they do like tomatoes! And they can get into the smallest of spaces. It will be interesting to see if any more disappear!

    1. The funny thing is that there's no sign of nibbled tomato anywhere. It's as if the whole fruit was just pinched :0/
