What used to be the Co-op has now re-opened as a Nisa Local. The inside has been refitted and is beautiful; cool and inviting.....
Despite still having a post office counter inside, there are various drop off points for parcels and packages.....
Not that I will use any of them because I prefer the Post Office counter where I can actually speak to a human being 😏 Inside the store, although not fully stocked yet, everything is laid out to tempt you to purchase. The premium ready meals look ok but at around £11.50 each I won't be buying any.....
The fuel station is still there, thankfully. I just hope the price stays competitive.

Today, Tuesday, the weather is still so hot and humid that it's really uncomfortable. I barely slept last night as it was still 28C in the house at midnight. I just couldn't drop off and watched the sky start to lighten around 4am. At 4.24am I heard the dawn chorus and recorded it on my Merlin App. It recognised Carrion Crow, Blackbird, Wren, Robin & the inevitable Wood Pigeon. I must confess I was a bit disappointed that there was nothing more unusual in our area. I finally fell asleep listening to birdsong, and with the bungalow window wide open, at around 4.45am. I had about 3 hours of restless sleep so feel like a zombie right now.
Gray took the car in for it's MOT at 9am, hoping to wait for it to be done, as we are meeting friends at 1pm in the pub for a cob lunch. Sod's Law struck again and the machine broke down so the mechanic can't do it. Gray has had to leave the car at the garage until further notice. I will have to drive my old banger to the pub but it's a 3 door vehicle and our friends can't get into the rear and we won't be able to offer them a lift home. Drat.......

How are you sleeping in this heat? I hope the heatwave breaks soon. It just makes me feel ill.
Take care everyone. Stay safe and well wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗
We are definitely hiding from the heat, I walked to the village at 9am, far to hot, tennis is on TV, luckily gor us our bedroom gets morning sun and is not so hot at bedtime.
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom is on the front of the bungalow which gets the afternoon sun. Not comfortable at all in Summer :(
DeleteI have never had cause to use the Drop Off lockers, that have appeared at all the supermarkets in our town, but a lot of people do now don't they. Like you I prefer to hand my parcel to a real person over the counter while this is still possible. We have those 'COOK' meals available in Booths, I have only ever once bought one of the desserts as a treat for Alan, but they are so expensive aren't they. Nice but too expensive for regular purchasing.
ReplyDeleteWe both overslept this morning due to having bad nights with the heat, with Alan only waking at 9.15am,. Which was unfortunate as he had an important Teams meeting at 9.30am. He just had time to fire up the computer, open the curtains and grab a clean t-shirt. Knowing that below the desk there were no jeans or trousers of any description, meant that he couldn't move an inch. It brought back memories of Covid times and all the half dressed people working online.
Oh my gosh, Sue, I'm now picturing Alan at the computer in his boxer shorts...lol... Poor man. This heat has been horrendous hasn't it. You can cope to a certain extent during the day but hot nights with no sleep drag you down.
DeleteYes, these drop off lockers are everywhere but the only time I tried to use one was during lockdown and they were all full. We tried one after another in a futile attempt to post something off. I've used the Post Office ever since.
We are so lucky as we live by the sea, at the top of a hill overlooking the sea and we get cooling sea breezes although last night was the biggest it has been for us but we still managed to sleep ok. We were talking how stifling it used to be when it was a hot summer and we lived in London 20 or so years ago before we moved down to the Sussex coast, something we have never regretted. I hope it is cooler for you tonight. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteOooh...sea breezes....that sounds amazing. You are so lucky, Sue. Last night was a little better but still too hot!
DeleteThat should read hottest not biggest! Sue
ReplyDeleteI am having trouble sleeping, waking up about 3 or 4 feeling much too hot and getting up to lay on the couch minus blankets. Since our oldest is visiting, I am staying up later as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get some sleep tonight.
God bless.
I can empathise with you, Jackie, it IS far too hot. Enjoy your Son's visit :)
DeleteIt's good you haven't lost the post office in the change over.
ReplyDeleteI've seen those Cook meals in my nearest Co-op but never tried one they are really expensive
I was afraid the Post Office might be taken away as there are a lot of pensioners who still get their pensions from the counter and they would be adrift without either post office or bank. Luckily, our pensions are paid into the bank but we still like to access cash for local shops.
DeleteI'm glad you still have a post office at the new store. I'm sorry you are having a heatwave. It's not hot enough here for me to complain about the heat. That will change when we go to 100F and above, later in the summer. :)
