Feeling Sluggish, a Treat, & Another Donation

We have had a very sluggish start to the new week.  My motivation has completely flown out of the window 😟 but a couple of sleepless nights this week haven't helped either.  I'm still worried about my sister and brother-in-law ( who is very poorly) but, at least, our son is on the mend, thank God.  Small steps.....

Gray decided that he should treat us to a cooked lunch at our favourite pub today.  There wasn't another soul in there when we arrived, so it was quite restful.  Gray ordered home cooked faggots, chips and mushy peas, and I chose brocolli and cauliflower bake with salad.  The meals were delicious as well as piping hot and came to £26 with a drink each.  Not too bad for a special treat.

Before we went to the pub, I had a few errands to run in the village so took another batch of cards to the Hospice shop.  Wow! Just 4 were left in the basket again 👍Today's batch makes 175 to date.

A sample below:

For men:

These three were again made from the free Hunkydory member's club gift:

The 'gift envelope' cards sell really quickly, apparently.  I ensure that the envelope on the front (which I fold myself) is capable of holding a folded banknote or a gift card; a card and gift in one!

I must make a few more of those as well as men's cards like these below, as they sell well too....

I took a large bag of allotment produce across to our lovely neighbours as soon as we got back.  There were new potatoes, runner beans, tomatoes, a cucumber and a bag of cooking apples.  We are starting to get a lot of windfalls again so I'm removing the ones which come away easily to save them from hitting the ground and spoiling.  I made a delicious blueberry and apple crumble with some on Sunday 😊

I think I told you about our 17 yr old Grandson and his awful employer, didn't I, well...yesterday he had a tiny piece of metal fly into his eye when he was grinding something off.  He thought he'd removed it but, as luck would have it, he had an optician's appointment after work and she spotted the metal embedded in his cornea 😨
This morning his mum took him to the local eye hospital where they scraped it out (it wouldn't wash out) and he's now on antibiotic drops.  I'm squeamish about eyes anyway but it sent shivers down my spine to think what could have happened.....

That's all the news for now.  Thanks so much for popping in.  Do stay safe wherever you happen to be,
Angie 💗

  1. Goodness, thank heavens they got the metal out of his eye, made me feel all peculiar.
You have such a clever knack with your cards, like that corner turned down - I would never have thought of that. Not surprised they are selling so well.

    1. Yes, Sue, it made me feel funny as I'm squeamish with eyes anyway. Luckily, the drops have helped to heal his eye in just a few days.
Thank you for the lovely, encouraging comment about my cards. I try to make ones I would buy myself :)

  2. Your poor grandson thank goodness it has been dealt with and I am so pleased that your son has improved. Thinking of your brother and sister-in-law, so worrying for you. Your lunch treat sounded delicious. I am not surprised your cards for men sold quickly they are great, I find it hard to find cards for men, they always seem to have pictures of beer or football, and lots of men don't like either 😉. Take care Sue H

    1. Thank you for your good wishes for the family, Sue, I really appreciate it.
re the cards: I try to do something different for the men. As you say, not all men like sport and beer. I try to design something I would buy myself for family members but I have to wait until inspiration strikes!

  3. Thank goodness they got the metal out of his eye, if it had been left he could so easily have either had to fight an infection or even lost his eye.

Your cards are raising a lot of money for a very good cause, they are lovely no wonder they are selling out.

    1. Indeed, Sue, it was very worrying. The company he works for don't even put these accidents in the accident book. They say there is no need.....

  4. Your poor grandson, he could have lost the sight in that eye. Don't his company provide safety goggles, or maybe he should take his own. What a shame HS&I can't find out. I'm also squeamish about eyes, which is why I've never tried contact lenses. Take care. Xx

    1. They never seem to have enough goggles or welding masks to go around and the ones he had don't have side protection. His mum has bought him a new pair of his own now. The company also never enter any kind of accident in the accident book 😮‍💨 they are totally out of order in my view.
Eek, I could never face contact lenses either, Gill ! Have a lovely weekend xx

    2. Not just 'out of order' it is also illegal not to have an accident book and record ALL accidents.

  5. Those free gifts from Hunkydory are always useful and you made some lovely new cards for the charity shop with them. I do hope your grandson is ok after that horrible eye experience. It made me winse at the thought of what he went through. Eye sight is so precious.
    Wishing you a lovely week.
