With my voucher tucked safely in my bag we tootled off to M & S to spend it. I was a bit disappointed though when I was unable to buy either sea bass or the chicken I wanted. The fish was tiny and quite pricey at £5 for two fillets and they had absolutely no cooked half chickens. In fact, there were no cooked chicken portions of any description.
This is what we chose in the end.....
One pizza has been frozen for next week and we ate the other for tea the same day. The halloumi fries, and mixed salad were eaten yesterday alongside a small jacket potato each from the bag. At least we have enough potatoes, tomatoes and cheese to last a while and we might even have cheese and potato pie over the weekend sometime.
Meals:
Pizza x 2
Halloumi fries, salad & jacket pots
Cheese & potato pie
Ready meal (Gray) toasted cheese sandwich (for me)
Therefore at least 5 meals for 55p
It was a shame not to be able to get fish or chicken but I still have cod fillets in the freezer and a tin of red salmon too. I should have enough food to last until the next online shop next Wednesday (14th) which means I have saved the £55 allowed in the budget for this week.

With the weather about to warm up again, we are trying to decide what to do with ourselves. Our Daughter is coming to visit for lunch today π but apart from that we have no plans. Our monthly adventure for May is towards the end of the month (shh....I'll let you know what that is soon!) but it would be nice to have a cheap day out somewhere before then. Must have a think.....π€
Thanks for popping in. Do stay safe and well in this turbulent world, wherever you happen to be,
Angie π
You are doing very well, we need a few weeks of little or no spend and stay at home days.
ReplyDeleteThey all help to stretch the budget don't they :)
DeleteThose lemon curd iced buns are a firm favourite with hubby! For some reason we call them Whitby buns as I think the original version was made in Whitby. I really think the M&S meal deals or dine in meals are good value.
ReplyDeleteThey really are deliciously indulgent :) Whitby buns sounds great!
DeleteThe M&S meal deals look really good, imagine what two takeaway pizzas would have cost you, never mind the added sides. I watched a guy on YouTube trying out all the various M&S meal deals and they all looked so tempting. Sadly my M&S voucher that has just arrived is only for £5 this time ... the downside to not spending much is that I haven't accumulated many points. :-(
ReplyDeleteYou did very well with your £25 gift card, making good use of it, and 5 meals for 55p is a great way to look at it.
Yes, Sue, you would only get one similar sized pizza for £10 as a takeaway here, never mind the sides which made us another meal.
DeleteEven £5 is a useful voucher to have when you are on a low income as M & S have a value range too now. Our bag of potatoes, for example, were just £1.35. And you've got your Dobbies £3 voucher too :)
Happy spending! ;)
I'm sorry you couldn't get the fish and chicken you were hoping to get, but, you did very well with what you did buy with your voucher. 5 meals for 55p is very good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bless :)
DeleteM&S are having a bit of a problem with their on line sales too.. sorry you missed out on getting the fish, we have a local fishmonger so buy from there.
ReplyDeleteYes, Chris, they are really struggling after the cyber attack. On the clothing floor a whole section was bare of fixtures and barriers were in place as there was no stock.
DeleteYou are so lucky to have a good fishmonger near you. They are few and far between these days.
